Submit a FOIA Request

Once you have reviewed the publicly available information available on NCUA’s website, confirmed that the information you seek is not available at the FOIA Library, and determined that the records you seek belong to the NCUA, then you may want to consider filing a FOIA request.

You may submit a FOIA request to request access to, or a copy of, any of NCUA’s records.

Please note, NCUA does not maintain personal account information or financial records of individuals.

If you believe a credit union is violating a consumer protection regulation or law, the NCUA’s Consumer Assistance Center (CAC) would be best able to address your concerns.

What to include in a FOIA Request

Regardless of how you submit your FOIA request, it must include the following information:

  • Your contact information (name, address, and telephone or email);
  • Reasonable description of the records being sought (provide as many details as possible about the information you are requesting); and
  • Statement agreeing to pay all applicable FOIA fees or pay fees up to a certain maximum amount, or a request for waiver or reduction of fees.

Requests for information that might include information about yourself or your own records must also include proof of your identity.

If expedited processing is requested, the request must include supporting information.

Submitting your request using eFOIA PAL or FOIA.gov may simplify the process because it will prompt you for the required information.

If you submit your FOIA request through email or by mail, you should ensure that your request includes the information above to enable NCUA to respond to your request in a timely manner.

Submit through NCUA’s FOIA Portal

FOIA requests may be submitted directly to NCUA through its eFOIA PAL portal. By using the eFOIA PAL, you will be able to check the status of your request, send messages directly to the NCUA FOIA team, and download records disclosed, if any.

Submit through the Government-wide FOIA Portal

FOIA requests may be submitted through the government-wide portal at FOIA.gov.

Please note that submitting a request by this method does not provide you with the ability to check the status of your request, send messages directly to the NCUA FOIA team, or download records disclosed, if any.

Submit through Email or Mail

You may submit a FOIA request by email or mail. Please note that mailing your FOIA request will result in delayed response times.

If the records you seek belong to an NCUA records, such as those concerning a NCUA program or a credit union, please submit your request to the NCUA Office of General Counsel (OGC).

The OIG investigates allegations regarding fraud, waste, abuse, or serious misconduct related to an NCUA employee, contractor, program, or operation.
