Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman assists with resolving problems by helping to define options and recommending solutions to involved parties. The Ombudsman is a neutral party to ensure a fair, equitable, and transparent interaction with the NCUA.

Ombudsman professional standards of practice:

  • Impartial - The Ombudsman remains objective in the treatment of people and issues and does not act as an advocate for any party.
  • Confidential - The Ombudsman takes reasonable steps to maintain confidentiality of communications.
  • Independent - The Ombudsman is independent from NCUA program offices and reports to the NCUA Board.

Additionally, the Ombudsman does not handle any matter in litigation or within the Inspector General’s jurisdiction.

The NCUA's Acting Ombudsman is Shameka Sutton.

Post Examination Survey

In September 2021, the NCUA started piloting a post-examination survey to allow federal credit unions to provide timely feedback to the agency while helping to standardize the feedback process. Credit union feedback helps the NCUA evaluate the effectiveness of our examination processes and improves communication with credit unions. Please refer to the NCUA’s Post Examination Survey page for additional information. If you have questions about the post examination survey, contact the Office of the Ombudsman at 703.518.1175 or ombudsman@ncua.gov.
