Acting Director, Southern Region

Cory Phariss is the Acting Regional Director of NCUA’s Southern Region. In this role, Mr. Phariss oversees the examination and supervision of all federally insured credit unions in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mr. Phariss most recently served as Deputy to the President of AMAC from 2017-2023. Throughout his career, he has served in various field, regional, and central office roles. His tenure with the NCUA includes positions in the Office of Executive Director, Office of Examination and Insurance, and as Director of Supervision in the former Region IV office. He joined the NCUA in 1999 as a field examiner in Corpus Christi, Texas, and has both led and participated in a variety of national initiatives, including the agency’s enterprise modernization efforts and the taxi medallion resolution.

Mr. Phariss holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Texas Tech University. He is a graduate of the NCUA’s Management Development Program and the NCUA’s Executive Training Program.
